Rama-Rama dan Aku

Tangkap gambar rama-rama hinggap ditangan sendiri; rasanya seperti masuk bakul angkat sendiri. Payah nak adjust setting kamera tapi takpa bolehlah juga. Ada sekali tu rama-rama hinggap di LCD screen; nak tangkap gambar rama-rama tu guna suami aku punya LG Arena KM900 tapi bateri dah kong.

Mr Hopper

He tried to camouflage itself in the eggplant leaves but his striking yellow body failed him.

WS #2: Pink is the new green

This mantis made the right decision not to camouflage itself in the greens for the weekend. Even creatures need to break from the ordinary routine.

Mr Mantis, pink brings out the best in you! And thank you for visiting my garden!

Orange Moth

The flaming orange color of this moth reminds me of the phrase "Like a moth to a flame...' The phrase is a simple allusion to the well-known attraction that moths have to bright lights. The word moth was used the the 17th century to mean someone who was apt to be tempted by something that would lead to their downfall. This is referred to by Shakespeare in The Merchant of Venice, 1600: "Thus hath the candle singd the moath." (Credits: Phrasefinder)

Haven't got to chance to search for its name yet.

Leafcutter Ants

Both are queens. Unlike other ants, however, queens possess a pair of wings. These are only used for the nuptial flight, and are later detached either by the queen herself or chewed off by her worker ants.

I think the back one is dying, while the front blurry one is watching. I didn't wait to see what happened but this image makes me sad. It was like seeing you loved one dying.

Macro Life

I took this photo last month but the spider quickly noticed me and hide (see how he look at me?). I think the face resembles a squirrel in this angle. I found him wandering around a rose flower.

Today, I found him again. I was able to capture his image clearly as he didn't noticed me. He was at the same spot only this time on the rose leaf. The flowers all have died but there is a hint of more flowers to come by the numbers of budding buds (is that the correct terms? I am never a good gardener). He ran and hide again after my son came and spray him with water.

I take macro photography as therapy. It is fun. If you have a digital camera, you should try too. I don't have a proper extreme macro lens but I just use the standard 18-55mm and the high power 55-200mm Nikkor lenses. Sometimes, I reverse them just to have that extreme macro shots. I would love to have the Micro Nikkor 105mm but right now it's too darn expensive, RM3,400! I guess I just have to make use with what I have, after all I'm just a hobbyist.

p/s I don't really know the sex of the insects, I just address them as 'he' or 'she' by their looks. This one looks macho enough to be called a 'he'. Lol!

Dragonfly: Clubtail

I am certain this one is from the clubtail genus but am not sure if it was an Ozark or Cobra. They look similar and I can't seem to narrow it down. Captured at the lake area in Bukit Cerakah.

Ladybird: Asian Lady Beetle

Am adding two more labels: ladybird and birds.

Asian lady beetle

This one is a photo of the Asian lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis). It was perching happily making rounds from one leaf to another when I saw her. I snapped nearly hundred shots! Got more than 20 good ones and the above shot is my favourite.

The Asian lady beetle is also known as the Multicolored Asian lady beetle or Harlequin lady beetle (because their tendency to vary in color from orange to yellow to even black). They are very beneficial, being natural enemies of many insects, especially aphids and other critters that damage plants by feeding on their sap. A single ladybug can consume vast quantities of aphids in its lifetime, perhaps as many as 5,000 or more.

This one has no spot. This is the only good shot out of 25.

Dragonfly: Yellow-winged Darter

Yellow-winged Darters

I am not an Odonatologist nor have I the deep knowledge about the odonata species but I try hard to look in the internet source to find the closest matching darters and compare them with my own photos.

An almost unmistakable darter, red-bodied in the male, with both sexes having large amounts of saffron-yellow colouration to the basal area of each wing, which is particularly noticeable on the hind-wings. Other darters species may have limited yellow-orange colouration near the extreme wing-bases, especially in females, but never so extensively as in this species. (Source: Yellow-winged darter, Wikipedia)

Dragonfly: Black Darter

Black Darter

This one is a Black Darter, I think. Locally common and widespread. According to the Wikipedia, the female's abdomen is mainly yellow, becoming browner with age. It has small yellow patches at the wing bases. The male has a mainly black thorax and abdomen. The abdomen has small yellow marks on the side, that darken with age. The wings are clear.

So I'm sure this one is a she.

Dragonfly: Red-veined Darter

I love dragonflies and have been capturing their photos whenever I went outdoors. This will my first post about dragonflies. I use Nikon D40X to capture all my photos, there are some using Fujipix S5000.

Red-veined Darter

Found this Red-veined Darter near a small stream by my father-in-laws house in Tangkak. I think this species is locally common as it can be found almost anywhere.

I manipulated this darter for my header and changed the body to magenta to match my blog. I thought the magenta dragonfly doesn't exists but to my surprise, I found one two days ago near the manmade pond at Awan Besar R&R, KESAS Highway. I almost screamed coz my imagination has turned out to be real!
